Chronos Consulting wins Renewable Energy RPO in China and India

Chronos Consulting has been engaged for a major Wind Energy Engineering RPO in China and India. Simon Harding, the owner of the Chronos Group stated ‘Over the last three years we have become increasingly involved in the Renewable Energy Sector and this win reflects the commitment of our Renewable Energy team but the catalyst for this series of wins is our merger with Shaw Energy. We have predominantly wind and solar roles throughout China, India, Germany, Belgium, UK, Norway and Spain. It would not be an exaggeration to say that this has transformed our business along with our rapidly expanding oil recruitment interests.

Wind Turbine Team Leader (Turbine Measurements) based in Shanghai, China

Company Description Our client is the world’s largest independent technical and engineering consultancy for renewable energy. They are the recognised global authority on onshore and offshore wind power and also serve the wave, tidal and solar sectors. Key Purpose of the role: We are looking for an individual to lead and expand the Measurements Team in Shanghai, China. Key purposes of the role is to take responsibility for the execution of projects in terms of • Resource planning and Delivery time • Technical Execution and Quality • Budget. • Introduction of quality management system
Job Description Working closely with the Measurements Competency Centre, the Team Leader Turbine Measurements China will be working to serve the growing demand for this service in China. The individual will be carrying out Type Measurements (Structural Load Measurements, Power Performance Measurements, Electrical Measurements and Acoustic Measurements) for turbine manufacturers and operators. Key responsibilities are as follows: • Lead and manage the local team • Train local measurement staff • Co-ordinate the execution of mandates/project with the Competence Centre • Support in co-ordinating the sales activities with the local BDM and the sales team in the Competence Centre • Manage the local workshop including handling of measurement equipment • Introduce a quality management system according to ISO 17025 • Take care for the fulfilment of local HSE requirements • Expand the turbine measurements team according to company strategy and budget. Facts and figures The size of the team you are responsible for is currently 3 engineers, 2 internship students, 1 BDM and 1 Assistant (total 7) and shall be maximum 10 at year end 2011. (to be updated) The team is located in an office Building in Shanghai as well as in a Workshop in the Suburbs. The current projects cannot be handled alone by the Chinese team. Currently the team is supporting the experts from the German based Competence Centre to execute the projects in China. Given the current work load the local team needs to grow.
Skill Required Essential skills and experience for this role are as follows: • Degree as Electrical or Mechanical Engineer • Sound experience in carrying out type tests for wind turbines as project manager • Experience of leading a team of engineers in an international environment • Ability and willingness to develop knowledge of the Chinese market (commercial and legal knowledge). • Excellent communication skills (English), both written and oral. • Willingness to travel (domestic and international) Desirable skills and experience for this role are as follows: • Chinese language skills. *The Competence Centre will be involved in the evaluation of the same since it is key for this position that the individual is experienced enough to make qualified decisions. Wind Turbine Analyst (Wind Turbine Load Assumptions), based in Bangalore- India

Reports to Head of Group – Certification India Key Purpose of the role: • Working as part of a team, perform load analysis of wind turbines for specific projects and for Type Certification. Support the Renewables Certification Head Office in load measurement assessment. The work will be performed in close cooperation with the Head Office in Hamburg, Germany.
Job Description • Calculating and analysing load assumptions for wind turbines. • Wind turbine simulation. • Performing site specific load analysis. • Assessment of wind turbine load measurements. • Performing loads simulation using state of the art software tools of newly developed wind turbines. • Communicating and reviewing the submitted design documentation and prototype measurement reports with Lead Engineer/Project Leader responsible for the project in Head Office. • Checking design load cases and calculating component loads based on load cases defined in Guidelines. • Running programs to generate all loads graphs, power curves and compare to measurements. • Investigating issues with the data and significant differences from simulation. Correcting calibrations, simulations and re-process as necessary.
Skill Required • BE or ME with above average degree and skills in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace, Ocean or Naval Architecture). • Successfully completed training of Wind turbine software • Successfully complete on the job training at the Head Office in Hamburg (Germany). • Minimum 5 years work experience with BE or 3 years with ME in calculation of loads and load measurement for wind turbines. • Knowledge of wind engineering, aerodynamics structural dynamics and fatigue analysis. • Experience of wind turbine load analysis software. • Sound knowledge of MS Office. • Good command of English, both written and oral communication. • Experience in working with international companies and clients. • Confident manner with customers. • Ability to work under pressure and take responsibility for work • Able to work as part of a team and has a flexibility approach to work. Desirable Skills: • Understanding of the IEC guidelines and compliance requirements. • Understanding Type Certification needs.

Additional Information: Hours 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday. Hours are flexible with starting times between 8.00am – 9.30 am. Working day is 8.5 hours less 1/2 hour for lunch. Travel Travel to the Renewables Certification Head office, Germany. Travel to customer sites in India or International locations. Frequency of Travel: 1 or 2 times in a year depending on projects or training requirements
